Monroe County Man Sentenced to 235 Months in Prison for Methamphetamine Possession
A Monroe County man has been sentenced to 235 months in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation, the Grimy Times has learned.
Charles Brian Stabler, 47, of Monroeville, Alabama, was convicted in a jury trial in July of 2023 of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute on two separate occasions.
According to court records, Stabler was stopped by police on January 29, 2019, while driving in Monroeville, and four individual packages of methamphetamine were discovered in the vehicle.
On August 4, 2021, a search warrant was executed in Frisco City, where nearly 9 ounces of methamphetamine were discovered. Evidence showed that Stabler was distributing methamphetamine in the days leading up to the search.
Stabler’s extensive criminal history dates back to the 1990s and includes a prior federal conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case, assisted by members of the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tandice Blackwood and George May prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama Sean Costello made the announcement.
Stabler’s sentence of 235 months in federal prison reflects the severity of his crimes and the harm caused to the community. This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing threat of methamphetamine trafficking in Alabama and the importance of continued law enforcement efforts to combat this issue.
The Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this case as more information becomes available.
