Local Man Charged with Child Pornography
A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Fulton County, New York. Charles Guyer, a 59-year-old resident of Johnstown, has been arrested and charged with distributing child pornography. The allegations against Guyer are a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of child exploitation.
According to the complaint filed against Guyer, in March and April 2018, he used file-sharing software to distribute child pornography over the Internet. The charges in the complaint are merely accusations, and Guyer is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), with assistance from the Johnstown Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph A. Giovannetti is leading the prosecution. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. If convicted on all charges, Guyer faces a minimum 15 years and up to 40 years in prison, a maximum $250,000 fine, and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life.
