A Texas man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation in Louisiana.

Charles Logwood, 34, was sentenced to 204 months in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release after being found guilty of possessing methamphetamine and marijuana with intent to distribute, as well as possessing a firearm in furtherance of those drug trafficking offenses.

According to evidence presented at trial, Logwood was stopped by law enforcement in August 2023 after being identified as a suspect in a methamphetamine exchange. During the traffic stop, Logwood admitted to having a gun in the vehicle, and a search of the car revealed a pistol, a large amount of cash, and approximately 4.5 kilograms of nearly pure methamphetamine, as well as 1.5 kilograms of marijuana.

The case was investigated by the DEA, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Monroe Police Department, and the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, and was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation.

Assistant United States Attorneys J. Aaron Crawford and Daniel J. Vermaelen are prosecuting the case, which was led by Chief United States District Judge Terry A. Doughty.

In a statement, United States Attorney Zachary A. Keller announced the sentencing, saying that ‘the investigation and conviction of Logwood was part of an effort to disrupt and dismantle the highest-level drug traffickers and gangs that threaten the United States.’
