In a shocking turn of events, Charles Neyhart, 34-year-old resident of Chugiak, Alaska, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his involvement in a notorious child pornography ring operating in the United States. The sentencing took place in Indianapolis, where U.S. District Court Judge William T. Lawrence handed down the harsh punishment.

Neyhart’s crimes date back to 2009, during which he produced sexually explicit photographs of a 10-year-old girl in West Virginia. These disturbing images were then transported to his home in Alaska, a clear indication of his involvement in the child pornography conspiracy.

According to court documents, Neyhart pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to advertise child pornography, one count of conspiracy to distribute child pornography, 13 counts of advertising child pornography, and two counts of distributing child pornography. He also pleaded guilty to a criminal information charging him with three counts of producing child pornography.

This is not the only case of its kind. Richard Schweich, 40-year-old resident of San Jose, California, was also sentenced to 30 years in prison for his participation in the conspiracy and producing child pornography. Both defendants were sentenced to lifetime supervised release following their prison terms.

The investigation, dubbed ‘Operation Nest Egg,’ was a joint effort between the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The operation targeted 26 defendants, including Neyhart and Schweich, who were involved in an online group dedicated to trading images of child pornography.

The group, which existed on a sophisticated, password-protected Internet bulletin board, allowed members to discuss their interest in children and trade images of child pornography. The investigation led to the arrest of 22 individuals, with 20 convicted or pleading guilty. Seventeen defendants have been sentenced to prison, while four remain at large and are still being pursued by authorities.
