Richard B. Morgan, a 68-year-old Roanoke man, has been sentenced to 72 months in prison for downloading and possessing child pornography.
According to the United States Attorney Rick A. Mountcastle, Morgan pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography and was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Roanoke.
The investigation, led by the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, revealed that Morgan used peer-to-peer file-sharing software to download images and videos of child pornography. A search warrant executed at his apartment uncovered 1,849 images and 4,406 videos containing child pornography on his computer and external hard drive.
Morgan’s sentencing includes 10 years of supervised release, a $5,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Charlene R. Day.
The Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security, all contributed to the investigation and prosecution of Morgan’s case.
