Charles Porterfield, Child Pornography, New York 2023

Buffalo, NY – In a shocking case of child exploitation, a federal jury has convicted Charles Porterfield, a 37-year-old registered sex offender, of producing child pornography and violating the terms of his registration.

The verdict, announced by U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross, carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison.

According to the investigation, Porterfield was required to register as a sex offender for life after being convicted in Erie County Court in 2011 of Engaging in a Course of Sexual Conduct in the 2nd Degree. He received a five-year prison sentence and three years of post-release supervision.

Less than a month after completing his post-release supervision, Porterfield allegedly paid a 13-year-old girl to engage in an online sexual relationship, which led to the production of images and videos of child pornography.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan P. Cantil and Paul E. Bonanno handled the prosecution and highlighted the egregious nature of Porterfield’s crimes, stating that he ‘used the victim to produce images and videos of child pornography.’

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Michael Stansbury, and the Northern York County Regional Police Department.

Porterfield’s sentencing is scheduled for May 23, 2023, before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara, who presided over the trial.

Porterfield’s case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of child exploitation and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
