CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Jason K. Hairston, 27, of Charleston, isn’t just facing charges – he’s admitted to being a significant player in the Mountain State’s drug trade. Hairston pleaded guilty today to distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, a charge stemming from a months-long investigation that exposed a network of illicit activity right in the heart of West Virginia.
The feds say between September 13, 2024, and January 30, 2025, Hairston wasn’t just holding – he was moving. Court documents detail how he peddled approximately 1.1 kilograms of methamphetamine for a cool $5,000 across four separate transactions. But that wasn’t all. He also confessed to selling 61.3 grams of heroin for $4,200 and an AR-style pistol for $1,000, all to confidential informants in Charleston. A one-stop shop for vice, apparently.
This wasn’t some back-alley hustle, either. On February 4, 2025, law enforcement stormed Hairston’s residence, and the haul was substantial: 1.958 kilograms of methamphetamine, another 23.87 grams of “ice,” six firearms, a stockpile of ammunition and magazines, the tools of a drug trafficker’s trade, and a staggering $18,057 in cash. The scene painted a clear picture of a well-funded, dangerous operation.
Hairston isn’t walking away with a slap on the wrist. He’s scheduled for sentencing on November 6, 2025, and is staring down the barrel of a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison – and potentially life. Add to that at least five years of supervised release and a potential $10 million fine. This isn’t a game; it’s a serious federal felony with serious consequences.
Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the guilty plea, praising the relentless work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). “This case demonstrates our commitment to dismantling drug trafficking organizations and removing dangerous individuals from our communities,” Johnston stated. The ATF’s involvement underscores the connection between drug crime and firearms, a volatile combination that law enforcement is aggressively targeting.
United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston presided over the hearing, while Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum is leading the prosecution. For those seeking further details, a press release is available on the U.S. Attorney’s Office website for the Southern District of West Virginia. Court documents can be found on PACER under Case No. 2:25-cr-28.
