CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In a grim turn of events, Robert Lee Barringer, 49, was sentenced to 412 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for the armed robbery of a Charlotte-area business on July 26, 2021.
The sentencing, announced by U.S. Attorney Dena J. King for the Western District of North Carolina, marks a significant victory for law enforcement after the violent incident at Fish House North, an adult arcade games establishment.
According to court documents and proceedings, Barringer opened fire on three victims – an employee, his wife, and a security guard – causing serious injuries. He stole $3,500 before fleeing the scene. Investigators linked Barringer, who had been fired a month prior, to the crime through evidence at the scene and witness statements.
Barringer was arrested two days later and has since been charged with interference with commerce by robbery and use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. He has a criminal history that includes assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon, making him prohibited from owning firearms or ammunition.
The sentence handed down today reflects the severity of the crime and the impact it had on the victims and the community. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher Hess and Timothy Sielaff prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in neighborhoods.
As Barringer awaits transfer to a federal facility, U.S. Attorney King expressed gratitude to the FBI and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department for their work on the investigation. The community is left with a sense of justice served as this dangerous individual is no longer a threat to public safety.
