In the sweltering Arkansas night, a diamond glint caught the eye of two ruthless highwaymen. Their mark was Chas F Roberts, a 26-year-old mail clerk on the Rock Island railroad, who was making his way home from work on March 11, 1908. The would-be robbers struck at Barton avenue and Markham street in Capitol View, Little Rock, attacking Roberts with a ferocity that would leave one dead and the other fleeing for his life.
