Jonathan Roshard Brown, Armed Robbery, Texas 2011

JACKSONVILLE, Texas — In a resounding victory for law enforcement, Jonathan Roshard Brown, 22, and Michael Dangelio Johnson, 25, have been meted out severe sentences after orchestrating a series of chilling armed robberies in Cherokee County. Today, U.S. District Judge Michael Schneider sentenced Brown to 180 months in federal prison, while Johnson received a 100-month term.

Brown’s crimes began on October 2, 2011, with the theft of $9,465 from the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Jacksonville. His partnership with Johnson and two co-defendants soon escalated into a spree that terrorized local businesses, culminating in a near-fatal shooting at Razorback Grocery.

The duo’s most heinous act occurred on November 16, 2012, when Brown fired a handgun into the body of a victim during an attempted robbery. The bullet narrowly missed vital organs but still necessitated life-saving measures after the victim was airlifted to a Tyler hospital.

These crimes were prosecuted under the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative, a collaborative effort that aims to reduce gun and gang violence in the Eastern District of Texas. This initiative involves federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, as well as community organizations.

The investigation was led by the FBI East Texas Gang Initiative and the Jacksonville Police Department, with crucial support from the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Moore spearheaded the prosecution of this case.
