Marcellus C. Lee, 33, and Gregory A. Collins, also known as ‘D.D.’, 36, have been slammed with serious heroin charges after an Ohio federal court indicted them for their alleged roles in the distribution of a kilogram of the deadly drug.
The United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Steven M. Dettelbach, announced the charges against the duo, who both hail from Chicago. The indictment stems from an extensive investigation by the Northern Ohio Law Enforcement Task Force (NOLETF), a multi-agency task force based in Cleveland.
Lee and Collins are accused of conspiracy to distribute a kilogram of heroin and possession with intent to distribute it. The NOLETF is no stranger to high-profile drug cases, as it is one of the initial Ohio High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) initiatives, dedicated to combating drug trafficking across the state.
The task force includes investigators from various federal agencies and local law enforcement, including the FBI, DEA, IRS, ICE, Cleveland Division of Police, and more. Assistant United States Attorney Christian H. Stickan will be handling the prosecution of this case.
According to legal protocol, if found guilty, the defendants’ sentences will be determined by a judge, considering factors such as their criminal history and roles in the offense. However, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum, which for drug trafficking offenses can be quite severe.
It’s important to note that an indictment is merely a charge and does not prove guilt. Both Lee and Collins are entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
