Jennilee Janae Velez, a 22-year-old woman from Addison, Illinois, was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison for her role in a massive cocaine trafficking operation.
According to a statement from the United States Attorney’s Office, Velez was arrested on October 1, 2022, after a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Seward County, Nebraska. Police found over 16 pounds of cocaine and 393 oxycodone pills in her vehicle.
Investigators discovered that Velez and three other women, including Mia Williams and Samantha Francisco, had traveled from Chicago to Los Angeles, where they loaded the drugs into their vehicles before heading back to Chicago. Williams and Francisco are still facing charges in the case.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Nebraska State Patrol, the Seward County Sheriff’s Department, the Saline County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Velez’s sentence was handed down by Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard. She will begin a 2-year term of supervised release after her release from prison, with no parole available in the federal system.
