PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man’s reign of gun trafficking and cocaine sales has come to an end. Detrey D. Robinson, 28, of the 1800 block of West Ann Street, was sentenced to 81 months in the Bureau of Prisons, to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release, for his role in federal firearm and drug offenses.
Robinson’s downfall began on June 22, 2023, when agents from the Peoria Area Federal Firearms Task Force executed a federal search warrant at his residence on W. Ann Street. The warrant turned up a loaded AR-15, a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and a 9mm Glock pistol equipped with an auto-sear, allowing it to fire as a fully automatic machine gun.
The search also uncovered several bags of cocaine, a scale, and over 200 plastic baggies consistent with those used in trafficking illicit drugs. The evidence clearly pointed to Robinson’s involvement in a large-scale cocaine operation.
Robinson, a convicted felon, was charged with four counts of federal firearm and drug offenses. He pleaded guilty to all charges in November 2023. His sentence reflects the severity of his crimes, with counts one through three running concurrently and count four, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, running consecutively.
The Peoria Area Federal Firearms Task Force investigated the case, comprised of agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Peoria Police Department; the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department; Illinois Department of Corrections; and the Illinois State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronald L. Hanna represented the government in the prosecution.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities nationwide. The program emphasizes fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, and setting focused enforcement priorities.
Robinson has been in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since his arrest in June 2023. His sentence sends a clear message to those engaged in similar activities: the consequences of gun trafficking and cocaine sales are severe and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
