A 51-year-old man from Belen, New Mexico, is facing federal charges for possessing child sexual abuse material. David Candido Gomez was identified as the suspect after Google reported two online accounts containing suspected child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in June 2026. The accounts, linked to the same phone number, contained a combined 25 files with suspected child sexual abuse material. The investigation led agents to a residence in Belen, where they executed a search warrant on July 30, 2026.
During the search, agents seized a cellphone associated with the Google accounts and found multiple images depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The device also had evidence of accessing both Google accounts and contained additional child sexual abuse material. The investigation, including efforts to identify victims depicted in the material, is ongoing.
Gomez is charged with possession of child pornography and will remain in custody pending trial. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. The New Mexico Department of Justice Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force initiated the investigation, which was later turned over to the FBI Albuquerque Field Office Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
The case was announced by First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office. The Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory (RCFL) and Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force also participated in the investigation.
