A Mexican national, Carlos Alonso Hernandez Urbina, 38, is facing charges for distributing and possessing child sexual abuse material in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Between May and June 2026, Urbina allegedly distributed the material to five individuals, and from 2024 to 2026, he possessed and accessed the material involving prepubescent minors. The FBI in Charlotte investigated the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Urbina’s alleged actions are particularly heinous, and U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson emphasized that those who engage in such conduct will face severe consequences, including prison time and deportation. The charges against Urbina include multiple counts of distribution of child sexual abuse material and possession of the material involving prepubescent minors.
If convicted, Urbina faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison for each of the five counts of distribution, as well as up to 20 years in prison for the charge of possession and access with intent to view the material. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case against Urbina is a stark reminder of the need for continued efforts to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to identify and prosecute individuals who engage in such conduct, and to bring justice to the victims and their families.
