Defendant Sentenced to 10 Years for Child Pornography

In a disturbing case of child exploitation, 43-year-old Christopher Zane Ordiway of Drayden, Maryland, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possession of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Roger W. Titus handed down the sentence, which will be followed by lifetime supervised release. Ordiway will also be required to register as a sex offender in the place where he resides, where he is an employee, and where he is a student, under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).

According to Ordiway’s plea agreement, from 2012 through 2014, he engaged in sexual activity with a minor female and possessed digital photographs documenting the abuse. The photos were found on Ordiway’s cellular telephone on January 21, 2016, during a forensic analysis of the phone by an HSI examiner.

Ordiway’s crime is part of a larger effort to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006, aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who engage in such heinous crimes. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to bring perpetrators to justice.

In a separate case, Santos Jovany Quintanilla, 37, of Lutherville-Timonium, Maryland, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually abusing a minor to produce child pornography. Quintanilla faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years and up to 30 years in prison for each of the two counts. U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz has scheduled sentencing for May 31, 2017, at 9:30 a.m.

Ordiway’s case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child sexual exploitation. As a society, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to protect our children from such heinous crimes. The sentence handed down to Ordiway is a step in the right direction, but it is only the beginning. We must continue to work together to bring perpetrators to justice and ensure that our children are safe from harm.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein, Special Agent in Charge Gordon B. Johnson of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Baltimore Field Office, and other law enforcement officials commended the efforts of those involved in bringing Ordiway to justice.

The cases were brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
