Alexander Douglas Kuhn, a 35-year-old ex-Marine, was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for producing and possessing child pornography in Raleigh, North Carolina. In June 2023, Department of Homeland Security Investigators identified Kuhn on social media apps, where he claimed to abuse a 3-year-old child and offered the child up for future abuse. Kuhn was arrested at his home in New Bern on July 19, 2023, after law enforcement officials obtained a federal search warrant for his residence and electronic devices.
Kuhn admitted to sexually abusing the 3-year-old child for over a year, taking photos and videos of the child, and sending those to others online. Investigators found numerous photos and videos of Kuhn sexually abusing the child, as well as criminal images of other children, on his electronic devices.
The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle stated that Kuhn will no longer target the young and vulnerable, and that there is a special place for him in the world – prison.
Homeland Security Investigations and other law enforcement agencies worked together to bring Kuhn to justice. Mark M. Zito, Special Agent in Charge of HSI Carolinas, said that the actions uncovered were deeply disturbing, and that HSI remains committed to pursuing those who exploit children and bringing them before the law.
