Omaha Man Sentenced to 5 Yrs for Child Pornography, Nebraska 2012

A 37-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to five years in prison for receiving child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. Brian P. Stieren was sentenced in federal court in Omaha by the Honorable Joseph F. Bataillon.

The FBI’s Omaha Cyber Crimes Task Force executed a search warrant at Stieren’s residence on March 7, 2012, and found 320 videos of child pornography on his computer equipment. The videos depicted young children, some as young as 2 years old, engaging in sexual acts.

The U.S. Attorney’s office announced the sentencing, which was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project was launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.

As part of his sentence, Stieren will be required to register as a sex offender and will serve a five-year term of supervised release after his imprisonment. The Omaha Cyber Crimes Task Force, which includes the Nebraska State Patrol, investigated the case.

The mission of the Omaha Cyber Crimes Task Force is to investigate and apprehend high technology criminals and to protect communities by preventing high technology crime and national security threats involving computers and computer networks.

Stieren’s case is a reminder of the importance of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, which seeks to identify and rescue victims of child exploitation and abuse. The project has been successful in bringing cases like Stieren’s to justice and holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
