A Grand Island man has been sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for his role in the receipt and distribution of child pornography.
James B. Haugh, 57, was found guilty by a jury in December following a three-day trial. He was sentenced on March 21 by United States District Judge John M. Gerrard.
Under the terms of his sentence, Haugh will also be required to serve a five-year term of supervised release and register as a sex offender after his release from prison.
The investigation into Haugh’s activities began when he came to the attention of investigators from the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office through a proactive investigation into the receipt and distribution of child pornography through file-sharing software.
According to court documents, investigators used automated software to determine that a computer utilizing a specific IP address was sharing child pornography through the Internet.
A search warrant was executed at Haugh’s residence in Grand Island on December 28, 2012, and a forensic examination of a computer and other storage media seized at the residence revealed numerous videos of child pornography that had been received and distributed between January 3, 2009, and December 28, 2013.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.
The Nebraska Attorney General’s Office led the investigation into Haugh’s activities, and the case was brought to justice through the hard work and dedication of law enforcement officials.
