OMAHA MAN SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

A 51-year-old Omaha man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for possessing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Drake C. Chrastil, Sr. was sentenced to 168 months’ imprisonment, followed by a five-year term of supervised release, with no parole in the federal system.

Chrastil was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution and to register as a sex offender. His sentence is to run consecutive to a 40- to 50-year state sentence he is currently serving. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Brian C. Buescher in federal court in Omaha.

The investigation into Chrastil began in May 2019, when the Omaha Police Department obtained search warrants for his residence while investigating him for sexual assault. The police recovered electronic devices from Chrastil’s residence and himself and conducted a forensic review, finding 344 images and 16 videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

At least 300 of the images and 16 of the videos were produced by Chrastil and featured a victim from Nebraska. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet and to identify and rescue victims. The initiative is led by U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.

The case was investigated by the Omaha Police Department, which worked to recover evidence and bring Chrastil to justice. The sentencing marks a significant victory for the community and serves as a reminder of the severity of child pornography crimes.

Chrastil’s sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of possessing and distributing child pornography. The case highlights the importance of Project Safe Childhood and the need for continued efforts to combat child exploitation and abuse.
