The U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota, Brendan V. Johnson, announced the sentencing on February 7, 2014. Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken handed down the sentence in the U.S. District Court.
Good Crow was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. In addition, he will serve 3 years of supervised release after completing his 2-year prison term.
The investigation into the abuse was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregg S. Peterman prosecuted the case.
Good Crow was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence. The community is relieved that justice has been served, and the child will receive the support and resources needed to heal.
