Jorge Monrroy, a 24-year-old from Sioux City, Iowa, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting a minor female between June 30 and July 2, 2025. Monrroy provided alcohol to the minor, got her intoxicated, and recorded a video of the two having sexual intercourse on the minor’s phone, which he then sent to himself. This heinous crime was committed in Sioux City, and the motive behind it is still unclear. The investigation was led by the Sioux City Police Department, and Monrroy was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kraig R. Hamit.
Monrroy pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a child on February 5, 2026. The evidence presented in court showed that he received, possessed, and distributed child pornography, further solidifying the severity of his crimes. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down the sentence, which includes 180 months of imprisonment, followed by a five-year term of supervised release. With no parole in the federal system, Monrroy will serve his time in full. He remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.
