Derrick Jones, Child Pornography Distribution, Massachusetts 2024

BOSTON – In a shocking turn of events, a previously convicted sex offender has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his role in trading child pornography. Derrick Jones, 45, of Arlington, Massachusetts, will spend the next 15 years behind bars for his heinous crimes.

According to court records, Jones used file sharing computer programs to trade and receive images of child pornography. He also downloaded and viewed images and videos of children ranging in age from infants to minors under the age of 18, being sexually exploited. A staggering collection of 34,000 images and approximately 13,000 videos of child pornography was found on his computer.

Jones’ crimes are not without precedent. In 2005, he was convicted of two counts of possession of child pornography. Despite this prior conviction, he continued to engage in his despicable behavior, further endangering the lives of innocent children.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit. United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz, Matthew Etre, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston, and Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson, made the announcement today.

The case is brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the DOJ’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims.

Jones will be required to register as a sex offender upon release from prison, where he will serve a 15-year sentence. This is a stark reminder that those who prey on the innocent will be held accountable for their actions.

The people of Massachusetts can rest a little easier knowing that another child predator has been taken off the streets. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
