Jason Gibson, a 46-year-old from Ledyard, Connecticut, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography. Gibson’s troubles began in February 2020 when he was convicted in state court of the same offense and sentenced to 10 years, suspended after 30 months, and 10 years of probation. However, his probation was revoked in April 2023 for violating the conditions of his release.
In March 2024, state probation officers made a routine home visit to Gibson’s residence and seized an unapproved cellphone containing a dark web application and over 200 child sex abuse images and videos. Further investigation led to the seizure of an external hard drive in April 2025, which contained more than 18,000 images and 1,400 videos depicting child sex abuse.
Gibson pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography on January 13, 2026. His penalties were enhanced due to prior state convictions. As part of his sentence, Gibson was ordered to pay $181,500 in restitution to 24 victims depicted in the images and videos he possessed.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the New Haven Police Department, with assistance from other local police departments. Gibson has been detained since April 2025 and will now serve his 10-year sentence in federal prison.
