Chicago’s grim underbelly has once again been exposed as 27-year-old Jaron Woodsley faces federal charges for the heinous crime of receiving and distributing child pornography.
The investigation launched after Woodsley shared graphic images with another individual using the Telegram messaging app. According to authorities, Woodsley traded at least thirteen videos, including six received from his co-conspirator, who was indicted in Colorado last year.
Today’s arrest marks a significant victory for law enforcement, as Woodsley is scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Maria Valdez this afternoon. The charges against Woodsley carry a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison and a maximum of twenty years if convicted.
The complaint was filed by United States Attorney Andrew S. Boutros, with assistance from Assistant U.S. Attorney Paige A. Nutini. Special Agent-in-Charge Douglas S. DePodesta of the Chicago FBI Field Office announced the charges, underscoring the government’s commitment to cracking down on such despicable acts.
Despite the gravity of these charges, it is important to note that a complaint is not evidence of guilt. Woodsley, like all defendants, is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial where the burden of proof lies with the prosecution.
The public is reminded that sexual exploitation is a serious offense and victims are encouraged to report any incidents to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at www.missingkids.com or by calling 1-800-843-5678, a service available round-the-clock.
