McALLEN, Texas – In a stunning case of illegal entry and child exploitation, 19-year-old Jinyi Zheng from China has been sentenced to federal prison for smuggling child porn across the border.
Zheng, who pleaded guilty on June 2nd, was caught with an iPhone 14 harboring six videos depicting prepubescent minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane ordered Zheng to serve 24 months in federal prison, with removal proceedings and potential additional home confinement following her release.
“This case underscores the critical importance of border security,” said U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei. “Zheng is exactly the kind of predator we must keep out of our communities.”
Authorities apprehended Zheng near Hidalgo after she非法 crossed from Mexico on February 12th. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from Border Patrol, conducted the investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexa D. Parcell is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative targeting child sexual exploitation. Zheng will be registered as a sex offender and placed on supervised release for five years upon her prison term’s completion.
