Repeat Offender Sentenced to 57 Months in Federal Prison
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A man with a history of violent crimes has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for possessing firearms while on community corrections for prior firearms offenses.
Christopher Allen, 29, of Indianapolis, was sentenced after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On November 5, 2019, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle in which Allen was a passenger near 42nd Street and Baker Drive.
The driver of the vehicle did not immediately stop, leading Allen to flee on foot, where he threw a handgun against a shed. Officers also saw Allen toss a clear plastic bag containing a white substance.
Allen eventually stopped running and gave himself up to police. A record check revealed an active felony warrant for a community corrections violation and for failing to appear for a hearing related to a prior illegal firearms possession case.
Allen is a repeat offender with a history of possessing firearms and violating probation terms. He was on community corrections for domestic violence and criminal confinement at the time of his arrest.
U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers and Daryl S. McCormick, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, announced the sentence.
The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge James R. Sweeney II, who also ordered Allen to be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years following his release.
As part of the LEATH Initiative, a partnership among the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana, the case focuses on domestic violence offenders who illegally possess firearms.
Additionally, this case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
