Denver, Colorado – In a shocking case of child exploitation, a registered sex offender has been sentenced to 35 years in prison and a lifetime term of supervised release for distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and involvement with a dark-web website dedicated to CSAM.
Christopher Carl Meier, 41, of Denver, was still on parole for a 2013 Colorado conviction for sexual exploitation of a child when he became a member of a dark-web website dedicated to CSAM depicting boys and the discussion of the sexual abuse of minor boys.
Meier pleaded guilty on July 9 to conspiracy to distribute CSAM and five counts of distribution of CSAM. He was a member of the website for more than 18 months and made more than 600 posts on the website, advertising and distributing images and videos depicting minor boys engaged in sexual conduct.
The FBI is aware of at least 65 victims of Meier’s conduct, who were tricked into thinking they were interacting online with a girl their own age and enticed to disrobe and engage in sex acts on webcam.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Child Exploitation Operational Unit and Denver Field Office, with the assistance of local authorities.
Meier’s case is a disturbing reminder of the ongoing threat of child exploitation and abuse online. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to combat this epidemic and bring perpetrators to justice.
Meier’s sentence is a significant victory for the victims and their families, and a testament to the dedication of law enforcement and prosecutors in pursuing justice in these cases.
