Rapid City Man Sentenced for Possession of a Stolen Firearm

A Rapid City man was sentenced to 18 months in prison for possessing a stolen firearm, announced United States Attorney Randolph J. Seiler yesterday. Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, sentenced Christopher Fire Thunder, age 40, on April 22, 2016.

Fire Thunder was found guilty of Possession of a Stolen Firearm after possessing a stolen .40 caliber pistol on June 17, 2015, at Rapid City.

According to the investigation, Fire Thunder was indicted for the charge on December 17, 2015, and he pled guilty on December 18, 2015. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuting the case.

Fire Thunder was sentenced to 18 months’ custody, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Fire Thunder was immediately returned to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
