Christopher Gorzynski, Obtaining Controlled Substance by Fraud, New York 2013

A Buffalo man has been sentenced to 24 months probation for obtaining and possessing a controlled substance by fraud.

Christopher Gorzynski, 26, of Buffalo, NY, was convicted of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and was sentenced to 24 months probation by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

Gorzynski’s downfall came on October 3, 2013, when he purchased prescription narcotics from a co-defendant who was working as a nurse in a local health care facility while working with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

After making the purchase, Gorzynski handed over a quantity of hydrocodone tablets to DEA agents stating that was the total purchase. Agents then searched the defendant and discovered 11 fentanyl patches hidden in Gorzynski’s shorts and in the sole of his shoes.

The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation on the part of the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of James J. Hunt, Special Agent in Charge, New York Field Office, the Lackawanna Police Department, under the direction of Chief James Michel, the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Daniel Derenda, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Department, under the direction of Sheriff Timothy Howard.

The charges against Gorzynski stem from his actions on October 3, 2013, and include obtaining and possessing a controlled substance by fraud.

Gorzynski’s case is a reminder that the dangers of prescription narcotics and the importance of proper oversight and regulation in the healthcare industry.
