Rochester Man Sentenced for Cocaine Trafficking and Gun Possession

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Rochester man has been sentenced for his role in a cocaine trafficking and gun possession operation.

Jose Guerra Caraballo, 43, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. on Tuesday.

According to U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr., Caraballo was convicted of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in the furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

The case against Caraballo began in November 2014, when law enforcement officers began investigating him and his brother, Jose Miguel Guerra, for their involvement in cocaine trafficking.

On January 21, 2015, officers arranged for a controlled purchase of cocaine from Caraballo, which led to his arrest. During the search of the vehicle, officers recovered a ROHM .38 Special revolver, 12 live rounds of .38 Special ammunition, approximately 12.5 grams of heroin, 33 grams of cocaine, marijuana, and new/unused glassine bags.

As part of the investigation, officers executed search warrants at two locations in Rochester, recovering various items including a firearm, ammunition, cash, drugs, and drug paraphernalia.

Caraballo’s brother, Jose Miguel Guerra, was also convicted of carrying a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

The investigation was led by the Rochester Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Ciminelli, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Adam S. Cohen.
