Gunfire erupted in a Buffalo suburb, leaving a police officer injured and a suspect barricaded inside his home. The standoff ended with the suspect in custody, but not before a harrowing confrontation that sent shockwaves through the community.
According to authorities, the incident began on March 24, 2026, when investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on Franklin Avenue in Dunkirk, New York. As officers entered the home, 39-year-old Christopher Marcinkowski allegedly fired two shots from a firearm, striking one of the officers. A standoff ensued, with Marcinkowski refusing to surrender for several hours.
After several hours of negotiations, Marcinkowski finally surrendered without further incident. The officers then seized a large quantity of illicit substances, including approximately 197 grams of suspected psychedelic mushrooms, approximately 11 pounds of suspected marijuana, and three firearms. Additionally, they found approximately $30,000 in cash and various forms of drug paraphernalia.
The suspect, Christopher Marcinkowski, has a lengthy history of prior convictions. In October 2013, he was convicted of possessing with intent to distribute cocaine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. In November 2021, Marcinkowski was convicted of distributing cocaine. These convictions have serious implications for his current case, as he now faces charges of maintaining a drug-involved premises and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The maximum penalty for these charges is 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine. Marcinkowski will make an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy on April 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Farhana Islam, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff James Quattrone, the Jamestown Police Department, under the direction of Acting Chief Scott Forster, and the Dunkirk Police Department, under the direction of Chief Christopher Witkowski.
While the suspect has been charged, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The charges against Christopher Marcinkowski serve as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers and the importance of addressing the scourge of drug trafficking in our communities.
