Defendant Charged with Distributing Controlled Substances in Monroe County
A federal grand jury in Scranton has indicted Claude Turner, 38, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, on drug trafficking charges.
According to United States Attorney David J. Freed, the indictment alleges that Turner distributed and possessed with the intent to distribute cocaine and fentanyl on May 1, 2018, and cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, tramadol, and ketamine on May 17, 2018, in Monroe County, Pennsylvania.
The indictment further alleges that Turner possessed with intent to distribute marijuana on May 31, 2018. Those two violations occurred within 1,000 feet of a playground, a protected place under federal law.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean A. Camoni.
This case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, a nationwide effort to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Additionally, this case is part of a district-wide initiative to combat the nationwide epidemic regarding the use and distribution of heroin, led by the Heroin Initiative.
Indictments are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.
The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is 40 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.
