A Clayton man has been sentenced to 123 months in prison for his role in a crack trafficking operation in Johnston County, North Carolina.
Gregory Tobaris Brantley, 39, pleaded guilty on February 18, 2021, to charges of possessing with the intent to distribute cocaine base (‘crack’) and cocaine, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and felon in possession of firearms.
According to court documents, Brantley maintained a dwelling for purposes of drug distribution in Johnston County. On July 10, 2020, North Carolina Probation and Parole Officers, assisted by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a probation search of Brantley’s residence in Clayton.
During the search, officers recovered a loaded .357 revolver, a 12-gauge shotgun, several boxes of 12-gauge ammunition, eight 15mg morphine pills, 72.66 grams of cocaine, 26.92 grams of crack cocaine (prepackaged for sale), digital scales and other indicia of drug distribution, and $587 in U.S. currency.
U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle presided over the sentencing hearing, where Brantley was handed down the 123-month prison sentence. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, North Carolina Probation and Parole, and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
G. Norman Acker, III, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made the announcement after the sentencing hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Fitzgerald prosecuted the case.
