GRIMY NEWS ALERT: Two women, Amber Mohan, 27, of Cleveland and Michelle Snyder, 33, from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, have been charged with housing intimidation, a grave violation of civil rights. According to Steven M. Dettelbach, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, and Stephen D. Anthony, FBI Special Agent in Charge for the Cleveland office, Mohan and Snyder are accused of violating Title 42, United States Code, Section 3631.
The sinister incident occurred on December 1, 2009, where a toy camel was hung from a noose and affixed to the door of A.F.A., an Arabic descent Muslim living in Cleveland. The targeted individual, known as A.F.A., was selected due to his race, religion, and national origin.
“In this country, people are free to live where they want, free from harassment and threats,” Dettelbach stated. “Those who have not gotten the message and break the law will be prosecuted.”
The charges against Mohan and Snyder carry a maximum penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine of $100,000, and up to one year of supervised release. Assistant U.S. Attorney James V. Moroney is handling the case, following an FBI investigation by the Civil Rights Unit.
