GRIMMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A 69-year-old Ohio man, Cleven Thomas, also known as Cleveland Thomas, faces serious charges after a grand jury indicted him for making false statements on his passport application and to federal agents.
Thomas stands accused of knowingly providing false information on a passport application, including the concealment of multiple birth dates and Social Security numbers. The allegations claim that he purposefully omitted details about his prior marriage and divorce.
The charges took a turn when it was revealed that Thomas made another material false statement to federal agents regarding the accuracy of his passport application on May 30, 2013.
According to Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, if convicted, Thomas’s sentence would be determined based on a review of various factors including any prior criminal record and the nature of the offense. It is important to note that an indictment does not prove guilt, and Thomas will have his day in court.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Phillip J. Tripi is leading the prosecution against Thomas, following an investigation by agents of the United States Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security.
