Clifford D. Johnson, No Crime Charged, Indiana 2024

In a shocking turn of events, Clifford D. Johnson has taken over as the Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana. Johnson’s appointment comes after the resignation of David J. Capp, who stepped down from the position.

The Vacancies Reform Act (VRA) mandates that the First Assistant U.S. Attorney (FAUSA) become Acting U.S. Attorney upon the resignation of the previous U.S. Attorney. Johnson has held the FAUSA position since August 2007 and has a long history with the U.S. Attorney’s office, dating back to January 1986 when he joined as a Civil Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA).

Before becoming the FAUSA, Johnson served as the office’s Civil Division Chief. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he worked as a trial attorney in the Employment Litigation Section of the Civil Rights Division from August 1980 until December 1985.

Johnson earned his Bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University in May 1976 and his law degree (Juris Doctor) from Valparaiso University School of Law in May 1980.
