Clifton Darnell Brown, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Oklahoma 2023

A Sand Springs man was sentenced for Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, announced U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. Clifton Darnell Brown, 47, was found guilty of these charges and has been sentenced to 151 months imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release.

The incident that led to Brown’s sentencing occurred in September 2024, when Tulsa Police were dispatched to a gas station. Employees at the gas station had noticed a car parked at a gas pump for an extended period, and the occupant, later identified as Brown, appeared to be unconscious. When approached and awoken by officers, Brown failed to comply with their commands and attempted to flee from them.

During the interaction with Brown, officers found a baggie that Brown had thrown and another baggie in his pants. A search of the car revealed marijuana and a loaded handgun. Lab forensics later revealed that the baggies Brown possessed contained methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl. This discovery led to Brown’s charges of Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition.

Court records show that Brown was previously convicted of several felonies, including grand larceny, drug-related offenses, attempted burglary, and possessing a firearm after pleading guilty to felonies. These prior convictions played a significant role in the sentencing of Brown, as his history of felonies demonstrates a pattern of disregard for the law.

The investigation into Brown’s case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Tulsa Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan E. Michel prosecuted the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. The PSN program brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Brown will remain in custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. His sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in illegal activities, particularly those involving firearms and narcotics. The U.S. Attorney’s office and law enforcement agencies continue to work together to combat crime and ensure public safety through initiatives like Project Safe Neighborhoods.

This program is a key component of the Department’s violent crime reduction strategy, which was launched on May 26, 2021. The strategy is based on core principles, including fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
