A Sallisaw man has been sentenced to 54 months imprisonment for Felon in Possession of Firearm and Ammunition, a serious crime that jeopardized public safety.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Clinton James Jones, 34, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, was found guilty of violating Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1) on March 14, 2015.
The charge arose from a joint investigation by the Sallisaw Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration, highlighting the need for interagency cooperation in combating crime.
The indictment alleged that Jones, having been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, knowingly possessed a firearm and ammunition in and affecting commerce within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Jones pleaded guilty to the charges in April 2015, acknowledging his guilt and taking responsibility for his actions.
The Honorable Ronald A. White, District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing, ensuring that justice was served.
Assistant United States Attorney Chris Wilson represented the United States in the case, demonstrating the commitment of the prosecution to upholding the law and protecting the community.
Jones will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending transportation to the designated federal facility where he will serve his nonparolable sentence.
