A Muskogee man has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 922(g)(1) and Possession of a Firearm with a Removed, Obliterated, or Altered Serial Number, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(k) and 924(a)(1)(B).
The charges against Steven Alex Hughart, age 38, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, arose from an investigation by the Muskogee Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The defendant was indicted in September, 2014.
The indictment alleges that on or about February 13, 2014, within the Eastern District of Oklahoma, the defendant having been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, did knowingly possess in and affecting commerce, one .380 Jimenez Arms handgun, bearing an obliterated serial number, which had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce.
The Honorable Kimberly E. West, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, accepted the guilty plea and ordered the completion of a presentence report.
Sentencing will be scheduled following the completion of the presentence report. The statutory range of punishment is up to 10 years imprisonment and/or up to a $250,000.00 fine.
The defendant will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending sentencing. Assistant United States Attorney Edward Snow represented the United States.
Steven Alex Hughart, a Muskogee man, is currently facing sentencing after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The charges against him include being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with a removed, obliterated, or altered serial number.
According to the indictment, Hughart knowingly possessed a .380 Jimenez Arms handgun with an obliterated serial number on or about February 13, 2014, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
