Sheldon Man Sentenced to Two Years in Prison for Illegal Possession of a Firearm
A 40-year-old Sheldon man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Clinton Kreykes was sentenced on September 21, 2022, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, before Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand.
Evidence presented during the plea and sentencing hearings showed that Kreykes was previously convicted of a felony offense, Burglary–3rd degree, and was a methamphetamine user. Both of these factors prohibit a person from legally possessing a gun.
On September 16, 2021, a compliance check was conducted at Kreykes’ camper in Sibley, Iowa, as part of his Iowa probation conditions. The probation officer located drug paraphernalia, and Kreykes was arrested. A search warrant was then issued and executed on the camper, where law enforcement located loose prescription pills, a small baggy of methamphetamine, a Mossberg 20-gauge shotgun, shotgun shells, and additional items related to drug use.
Clinton Kreykes, 40, of Sheldon, Iowa, was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment and must serve a three-year term of supervised release following imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. Kreykes remains in custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
