Clovis Man Sentenced to 12.5 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking

ALBUQUERQUE – A Clovis man has been sentenced to 151 months in prison for his methamphetamine trafficking conviction, according to court documents.

Michael Montoya, 37, was sentenced in federal court in Albuquerque, N.M., to 151 months in prison for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation in Curry, Cibola, and Socorro counties.

Montoya will serve 151 months in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release, during which he will be required to report to a probation officer and comply with any conditions set by the court.

As part of his sentence, Montoya was also ordered to pay a money judgment in the amount of $60,000.00.

Montoya and his co-defendants, Brian Acuna, 23, Dianna Hernandez-Trujillo, 24, and Alexander Page, 28, were arrested in November 2013, on a six-count indictment charging them with trafficking methamphetamine in three New Mexico counties.

The indictment charged Montoya and his co-defendants with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and money laundering. Montoya pleaded guilty to Counts 1 and 5 of the indictment, charging him with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and money laundering, respectively.

As part of his plea agreement, Montoya admitted to arranging for drivers to transport methamphetamine from California to New Mexico, where he would distribute the drugs. He also admitted to owning large quantities of methamphetamine seized from his co-defendants and providing vehicles for them to transport the drugs.

Montoya’s co-defendants, Brian Acuna and Alexander Page, have also pleaded guilty to their roles in the methamphetamine trafficking operation. Acuna was sentenced to 27 months in prison, while Page was sentenced to 27 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
