Spartanburg Men Sentenced to Federal Prison for Cocaine and Methamphetamine Conspiracy
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In a major blow to the region’s illicit drug trade, a 21-year-old Piedmont man and a 28-year-old Enoree man have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy.
According to court records, Logan Holmes, 21, of Piedmont, was sentenced to 135 months (11.25 years) in federal prison, to be followed by a five-year term of court-ordered supervision after pleading guilty to his role in the conspiracy. Christian Cruz, 28, of Enoree, was sentenced to 98 months (8.17 years) in federal prison, to be followed by a four-year term of supervision for his involvement in the same conspiracy.
Evidence presented to the court revealed that Holmes was a source of supply for kilograms of methamphetamine, while Cruz served as a source of supply for kilograms of cocaine to co-conspirators in the case. The investigation uncovered a disturbing pattern of behavior, with Holmes supplying methamphetamine to others while on home detention for a state conviction of possession with intent to distribute cocaine. When state officers executed arrest and search warrants at Holmes’ residence, they located methamphetamine and five guns, two of which were stolen. A search warrant at Cruz’s house turned up another five guns, including an unregistered short barrel rifle.
The prosecution of Holmes and Cruz is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States by using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach that leverages the strengths of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies against criminal networks.
This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville County Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit, and Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jamie Schoen is prosecuting the case.
The sentencing of Holmes and Cruz is a significant victory for law enforcement in the region and serves as a reminder that the consequences for those involved in the illicit drug trade can be severe. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
As the investigation continues, it is clear that the region’s residents are safer thanks to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies working together to combat the scourge of drug trafficking. The Grimy Times commends the bravery and dedication of these agencies and their personnel.
