Fort Myers, FL – A grim sentence has been handed down in Florida, as Luis Daniel Fuentes, 47, from Lehigh Acres, was sentenced to a staggering 110 years in federal prison for producing and possessing child sexual abuse videos and images.
Fuentes’s monstrous actions involved the use of three minors, with whom he engaged in sexually explicit conduct. He recorded these acts on his cellphone, which held seven SD cards filled with the illegal material. The court documents detailed a chilling timeline from August 28 to September 27, 2020, during which Fuentes preyed on the young victims.
Law enforcement seized Fuentes’s cellphone and SD cards following a thorough search warrant. What they found was even more heinous: 24 videos of him sexually abusing three children, aged 2, 5, and 6 at the time, along with over 5,000 images and 17 additional videos depicting the sexual abuse of minors. These were all part of Fuentes’s collection, downloaded from the dark corners of the internet.
The investigation was a collaborative effort by the FBI, Fort Myers Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, which included the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Yolande G. Viacava led the prosecution in this case.
Fuentes pleaded guilty on February 8, 2024, to charges of producing and possessing child sexual abuse material. Along with his lengthy prison sentence, he was also sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release and is required to register as a sex offender.
This conviction comes under the banner of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat the growing crisis of child sexual exploitation and abuse. More information on this vital effort can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.
