Cocaine Kingpin Indicted in Pittsburgh
A Pittsburgh man has been slapped with a two-count indictment for violating federal drug laws and gun laws, according to United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung.
Ryan Moore-Daniels, a 37-year-old resident of the City’s Beechview neighborhood, is accused of possessing with intent to distribute a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance, on December 9, 2021. Additionally, Moore-Daniels is charged with knowingly possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime for which he may be prosecuted.
Moore-Daniels’ alleged crimes carry a maximum total sentence of 25 years in prison, a fine of $1,250,000 or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney Katherine C. Jordan is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The investigation leading to the indictment was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Internal Revenue Service, City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Pennsylvania State Police, New Castle Police Department, Allegheny County Police Department, Robinson Township Police Department, and Monessen Police Department.
This prosecution is a result of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation, which identifies, disrupts, and dismantles high-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten communities throughout the United States.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Moore-Daniels’ alleged crimes have sent shockwaves through the Pittsburgh community, with many calling for stricter laws to combat the growing problem of drug trafficking in the city.
As the investigation continues, residents are left wondering what other secrets may be lurking in the shadows of the city’s streets.
