DRUG TRAFFICKING

A Martinsburg, West Virginia, court handed down a sentence of time served to Terry William Jimenez Morales, a 26-year-old from Strasburg, Virginia, for his role in a cocaine trafficking ring.

Morales pleaded guilty in July 2021 to one count of aiding and abetting possession with intent to distribute cocaine hydrochloride, following an investigation that uncovered over 85 grams of the illicit substance in March 2019 in Jefferson County.

According to court documents, Morales’s actions had significant consequences for the community, and his conviction serves as a reminder of the severe penalties for those involved in the drug trade. Morales will not face additional time behind bars for his crime.

The investigation into Morales’s activities was spearheaded by the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, in collaboration with the Ranson Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the case, which marked a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking in the region.

The prosecution’s efforts demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to hold individuals accountable for their roles in the drug trade, and the consequences for those who engage in such activities will continue to be severe.

Morales’s case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of the opioid crisis and the importance of continued vigilance in the fight against drug trafficking.
