Robert Donavan Buzzard, Distribution of Heroin, West Virginia 2016

A Boone County man has been caught and charged with distributing heroin, leaving a trail of destruction and addiction in his wake.

Robert Donavan Buzzard, 42, of Bloomingrose, pleaded guilty to federal drug crime, specifically distribution of heroin. The crime was committed on two occasions in January 2016, when Buzzard sold heroin to a confidential informant working with law enforcement in Bloomingrose and Seth in Boone County.

The U.S. Route 119 Drug Task Force conducted a thorough investigation into the crime, and Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Hanks is leading the prosecution. The case was brought before United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia has been cracking down on the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin. The office, joined by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, is committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets, and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers and heroin in communities across the Southern District.

Buzzard faces up to 20 years in federal prison when he is sentenced on January 19, 2017. The sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of distributing heroin and perpetuating the opioid epidemic in West Virginia.
