Cocaine Trafficker Sentenced to 120 Months
A federal court has sentenced Pedro Cabrera Lopez, 39, of Muscatine, Iowa, to 120 months in prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking conspiracy.
According to court documents, from June 2006 to July 2007, Cabrera Lopez and his co-conspirators distributed large amounts of cocaine to individuals in Muscatine, Iowa. The quantity of cocaine distributed in the conspiracy exceeded 2 kilograms, or about 4.4 pounds.
Cabrera Lopez was arrested in Texas in November 2014, after he had been in Mexico for approximately seven years. He was extradited back to Iowa and pleaded guilty on April 22, 2015, to the charge of conspiracy to distribute at least 500 grams of a mixture or substance containing cocaine.
United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt announced the sentence, which also includes four years of supervised release following Cabrera Lopez’s imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay $100 towards the Crime Victims Fund.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Muscatine County Drug Task Force, and was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa as part of the Project Safe Neighborhood initiative.
Cabrera Lopez’s sentence is a result of his involvement in a significant cocaine trafficking operation in Muscatine, where he and his co-conspirators distributed large quantities of cocaine to individuals in the community.
The sentencing of Cabrera Lopez is a significant blow to the local cocaine trafficking scene, and serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in such activities.
