Holland Man Pleads Guilty to Cocaine Trafficking
A Holland man has pleaded guilty to possessing over 5 kilograms of cocaine with intent to distribute, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan announced. Jason Duenas, 27, will face a mandatory minimum sentence of at least 10 years in prison, according to his plea agreement.
The interagency investigation that led to Duenas’s arrest was led by the West Michigan Enforcement Team, the Holland Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program, which targets high-level drug traffickers and money launderers.
According to Duenas’s plea agreement, he kept approximately 19 kilograms of cocaine inside a home during the summer of 2022. The majority of the cocaine was packaged into ‘bricks’ that were stored in and around a laundry room to which Duenas had access, the agreement stated.
Duenas is accused of planning to sell the cocaine to others for personal profit. His arrest marked the culmination of an interagency investigation that involved multiple law enforcement agencies working together to combat illegal drug trafficking.
U.S. Attorney Mark Totten said that drug dealing at a kilogram scale ‘ruins lives’ and ‘ruins communities.’ He emphasized that the U.S. Attorney’s office remains committed to holding dealers fully accountable for their actions.
Duenas’s sentencing date has not yet been scheduled. However, he will face a mandatory minimum sentence of at least 10 years in prison at sentencing, according to his plea agreement.
