Cody Shanks, a 29-year-old Bunker Hill, Indiana resident, was sentenced to 72 months in prison for receiving child pornography, according to a recent investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Shanks, an elementary school teacher, received child sexual abuse material files via the internet between November 2022 and March 2023.
The investigation, led by Homeland Security Investigations with assistance from the Indiana State Police, the Miami County Sheriff’s Department, and the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, uncovered Shanks’ receipt of child pornography material.
Shanks pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 72 months in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys John M. Maciejczyk and Hannah T. Jones.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood was created by the U.S. government in 2006 and is led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.
